چکیده

objective: one of the principle purposes of root canal obturation is to obtain hermetic sealing of the root canal system. according to the development of technology, many materials are now used in root canal filling. an in vitro dye leakage study was performed to evaluate the apical sealability of white-colored mineral trioxide aggregate (wmta) and gray-colored portland cement (gpc) when used alone or as a sealer with gutta-percha points in root canal filling. materials and methods: seventy-five single-rooted extracted human teeth were used in this study. after cleaning and shaping, the teeth were randomly divided into five equal groups of 15 teeth each based on the root canal filling material used; group 1, (wmta) alone; group 2, (gpc) alone; group 3, (gutta-percha points + wmta); group 4, (gutta-percha points + gpc); group 5, (gutta-percha points + ah26). methylene blue was used to determine the apical leakage. after sectioning the teeth longitudinally, linear dye penetration was measured with a caliper under the stereomicroscope. data were analyzed by kruskal-wallis and one-way anova tests with (p ≤ 0.05) as the level of significance. results: the results showed that there were no statistically significant differences among the materials of five groups. conclusion: (wmta) alone, (gutta-percha points + wmta), (gpc) alone and (gutta-percha points + gpc) may be used in the root canal filling.

Root perforations treatment using mineral trioxide aggregate and Portland cements.

PURPOSE Clinical, radiological and histological evaluation of root perforations treated with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) or Portland cements, and calcium sulfate barrier. METHODS One molar and 11 premolar teeth of a male mongrel dog received endodontic treatment and furcations were perforated with a high-speed round bur and treated with a calcium sulfate barrier. MTA, Portland cement typ...

Comparison of the sealing ability of mineral trioxide aggregate and Portland cement used as root-end filling materials.

Inadequate apical seal is the major cause of surgical endodontic failure. The root-end filling material used should prevent egress of potential contaminants into periapical tissue. The purpose of this study was to compare the sealing ability of four root-end filling materials: white mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), gray MTA, white Portland cement (PC) and gray PC by dye leakage test. Ninety-si...

In Vitro Evaluation of Antifungal Effects of Mineral Trioxide Aggregate and Portland Cement on Candida Albicans

INTRODUCTION Candida Albicans (CA) is by far the most common yeast of oral infections, including endodontic infections. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the antifungal effect of white-colored mineral trioxide aggregate (WMTA) and Portland Cement (PC) using a tube-dilution test. MATERIALS AND METHODS WMTA and PC were tested freshly mixed and after 24 h. The experiment was perf...

in Vitro Sealing Ability of White and Gray Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (mta) and White Portland Cement Used as Apical Plugs

This study evaluated the sealing ability of apical plugs made of white and gray MTA-Angelus and white Portland cement placed via the root canal and having different thicknesses (2, 5 and 7 mm). Ninety extracted human single-rooted teeth were instrumented using a size 40 K-file to standardize the foraminal opening by the stepback technique. The teeth were assigned to 3 groups (n=30), according t...
